The Blog of Fame: Google Brain Farts

Brain farts are excellent brainy breakfast!

You know I was itching for a collaboration, didn’t you?

I check my traffic stats religiously. What I’m mostly obsessed about are the google searches that land people on my blog. But the idea for this post didn’t come from that. I read Roni Loren’s blog about her search jewels ages ago, and I was impressed by people’s savvy ways to find information online (not). Furthermore, someone reminded me of this on twitter last week, so I decided to nose around and gather up some google dirt for you guys. (Because I love you and I want you to live long lives—laughing helps.)

Wise Winamp Wednesday: Ask the All-Knowing

Today, I’m going to share my favorite game with you.

(Yes, this is how I like to procrastinate.)

Apart from playing around with Tarot Cards, I like to kick back with a game which is equally prophetic but much more fun. For those of you who believe in divine intervention and those of you who don’t give a sh*t, I have a way of ‘knowing’ things. It’s mainly because I have a very good all-knowing friend (not to be confused with a know-it-all) who’s always there to lend me some perspective and wisdom whenever I need it.

This friend’s name is…

TAGAWARDS: A Day of Fun and Appreciation

Oh yeah... we know how to party at the North Pole.

Happy Monday!

I have a good feeling about this week. I’m full of energy, I’m awake, and I’m living the dream: one tiny step at a time. To a Capricorn, that’s very much the point.

You think I’m demented, don’t you? I’m not published, currently in editing hell, and I’m barely out of college, soon to be homeless, so what’s so dreamy about that?

I’ll tell you what.

Meet the Muse Collaboration (Part 3)

(shoutout @ DeviantArt)

So it’s time for the LAST instalment of Meet the Muse collaboration. To be honest, I would like to read and put up LOTS more muse-bits but I think it’s time to let go. *cries*

I’d just like to thank again everyone who participated and tell you guys that you are all my muses. And the best part about showcasing your bits on my blog (no dirty pun intended) is that they’ll always be on here, inspiring me whenever I hit the brick wall of death called Writer’s Block.

If these inspired YOU as well, make sure you let them lovely writers know. ^__^

Meet the Muse Collaboration (Part 2)

As promised, here is the second instalment of Meet the Muse. If you haven’t seen the first instalment yet and have no idea what I’m on about, you should go here

Enjoy!

Meet the Muse Collaboration (Part 1)

(ElectraStarX @DeviantArt)

It all started with the post on Tuesday (The Writing Cast). I was going to follow up with a post about my muse: Nereth. Then I wondered what my fellow writers had to say about their own muses. In a rush of excitement, I concocted a plan: to turn my modest me-me-me post into a WE extravaganza!

So I rushed to twitter, pen poised in hand, to look for gems. My question was: ‘Does your muse have a name?’ It turned out that some had, others didn’t, and yet third did not even exist, much like dragons and Rudolph.

But the purpose of this collaboration was not to judge. It wasn’t to restrict either. It was simply to collect, inquire, and inspire. So I gave my friends total freedom, and boy was I flabbergasted at the results!

Blogging to Be Remembered

So I’ve already talked about hooking them readers with a good blurb here. Today I’ll talk about writing style. It’s related to my American Idol rant where I said that every good artist should possess three qualities: gift, style, and craft. In this order actually.

Briefly, we all have the gift of our discipline. Style is the individual voice that permeates your art. Craft is the set of skills you develop to realize those things. It’s hard for me to say which the most important is. All I know is: you need to have all three to be great.

Now then. I read a blog post the other day on Dan Cavallari’s blog, which started off by referring to a post where a girl had mentioned she hadn’t written a word in six months. But he also said he didn’t remember where he’d read this (at the time) and that got me thinking. How many blog posts do you read every day? How many do you comment on? How much do you like each of those? And most importantly, how many of them can you recall later?

It's Me Against the Odds, Baby

(All Hail the Mighty Goat, Capricorn. ;)

Notice anything different at all?

Yes, I did. Now, I promise this will be the last surprise I spring on you guys but it had to be done. Why did I change the title? Because I wanted a more personalized name and URL, and also because Kristen Lamb was right when she advised that every author should put their name in the title of their blog. Yes I know that Lyn Midnight is not my name but it’s the alias I go by when I write.

If you have read The Dark Half by Stephen King, you’d know how the author’s alias (Stark) came to life and tried to overpower the MC. While Lyn is not going anywhere near my power source, she is also not going anywhere, period. I can never leave her behind  because of our history together.

It’s she who started to write, not me.

Time for Blog Fun: Game of Tag

So I’ve been tagged by the lovely Angela. I often check out to see what she’s been up to on her lovely blog, and she’s a very nice tweep to have around. Go check her out in her cyber lair!

And this game of tag sounded so fun that I bravely jumped into the depths of my brain-closet to fish out answers to existensial questions such as… *blinks* ‘Are you hot??’ Well, sure, I guess it’s a silly game them. I sure love those!

So let the game begin!

The Following Obsession on Twitter

I have a very obsessive-compulsive personality. Whether it’s a TV show or Facebook or Twitter or blogging or plotting, I go all the way. I want to do it right so I probably do too much. My days basically melt away under the glaring eye of the screen.

I know, right? When do I live? I guess I do that in the winter when I’m way too lazy to be active online. Anyway, talk about obsession, I’ve noticed a common trend on Twitter, which I have suffered all the same. Of course, the first step of overcoming a problem is admitting that you have it. The second is to accept it will probably never go away. At best, you can tone it down.

The Versatile Blogger Award

The wonderful Orlando Ramos has given little me a big award!

True, he bestowed it upon my other blog (http://bit.ly/jmx1VW ) BUT since I am getting a bit iffy to post awards there because I am trying to keep it clean for the story I am building, I decided to move the party here instead. Now that’s what I love about having two blogs.

Anyway, you would do good if you visited Orlando’s blog as well (http://oaboutthat.blogspot.com/). He truly is a versatile writer/blogger. From writing and publishing tips to insightful musings and inspirational posts, he’s got it all. Plus he plays the guitar. He can’t possibly be any cooler than that. If you want to follow him on Twitter as well, he goes by the wonderfully original @O_about_that. Go on. I’ll wait. :P

And here is the blah-blah part, I mean rules I have to follow:

THANK YOU!

THANK YOU FOR FEEDING THE LITTLE BIRDIES!
I swear they grow in numbers every time I come to check up on them. Hopefully, this means that my Twitter friends (yes, YOU) are taking good care of the little buggers. I haven't given them names yet, but some of them answer when I make this sound: Popopopopopopopopo... Funny birds.

<:O O:> <:O O:> <:O O:> <:O O:> <:O O:> <:O O:> <:O O:> <:O O:> <:O O:> <:O O:> <:O O:> <:O O:> <:O O:> <:O O:> <:O O:> <:O O:> <:O O:> <:O O:> <:O O:> <:O O:> <:O O:> <:O O:> <:O O:> <:O O:> <:O O:> <:O O:> <:O O:> <:O O:> <:O O:> <:O O:> <:O O:> <:O O:> <:O O:> <:O O:> <:O O:> <:O O:> <:O O:> <:O O:> <:O O:> <:O O:> <:O O:> <:O O:> <:O O:> <:O O:> <:O O:>

Anyway, since you're already here, I'd appreciate it if you stay a while, look around, read what fancies you, and possibly even leave a comment. Feedback is always appreciated around here, as it fuels good writing and makes the birdies' beaks sturdy when they peck on it. The birdies & I will love you all the more!

ENJOY!!!

The Six-Words Collection

Hello, fellow tweeps! Yesterday (May 17th), the news of the 6-word ‘Momoirs’ on the New York Times (http://nyti.ms/iOs14s) took Twitter by storm, so some of us decided to invent our own 6-wordsies on various topics. We pretty much ran wild with it! So, naturally, I couldn’t resist putting them all together. Apart from #sixwords, there’s also #fourwords and #fivewords, and if there were more of me, I’d have included those too.

Hope I didn’t forget anyone! Also, if you have a FAVORITE or would like to CONTRIBUTE more #sixwords, feel free to do so here. Just bear in mind I won’t be checking the channels anymore, because it’s too addictive! So, lo and behold! Counter-alphabetized, THE 6-WORDS COLLECTION.

P.S. Thanks to all contributions and I hope everyone enjoys!
