Wise Winamp Wednesday: 8-ball for Your Ipod

(suphafly @ DeviantArt)

So before I give you what you came here for, I just want to say that WEDNESDAY RULES! If you haven’t already checked Anne-Mhairi Simpson’s Wednesday Word (GRIFNAT) and Tracey Hansen’s Hump Day Challenge, YOU SHOULD. After you read this, head over there, because the words will make you laugh and marvel, while the challenge will flex your writing muscles and inspire you. Not to mention that you might get the winner’s shiny badge for your blog. I mean… no, you can’t. THE BADGE IS MINE! MY precious.

Sunday Songs: Chicken Soup for the Ears

I wasn’t going to blog today. Honest! But a friend of mine – Mark Evans – blogged his new favorite song today: Never Tomorrow which he found in the Sucker Punch soundtrack. We are both fans of movie scores and this soundtrack, we agreed, is a good one to have.

So when I saw what he did I couldn’t just pass the opportunity to dump my top 6 songs on you guys. And since music is always connected to some moment or person in my life, I might get reminiscent.

Wise Winamp Wednesday: Ask the All-Knowing

Today, I’m going to share my favorite game with you.

(Yes, this is how I like to procrastinate.)

It’s mainly because I have a very good all-knowing friend (not to be confused with a know-it-all) who’s always there to lend me some perspective and wisdom whenever I need it.

This friend’s name is…

The Commercial Wave and American Idol

Haley Reinhart started slow, uncertain, like a scared child in front of a large mountain of ice-cream. But she scraped and crawled and ate the stage (bad metaphor much?) until she reached a point where outstanding performances rolled out of her sleeves and into our open hearts, warming us with her talent, professionalism, and unique rasp of a voice.

And that’s what I was talking about all along. She had all three tickets (gift, style, and craft) and was headed for the win, as it should have been. Naturally, she was shot down by the ‘Scotty and Lauren’ blob of zombie fans who wanted nothing more but to be further amused by the show they had forgotten was for talent, and not appearances or likability.

Now, Lauren Alaina illustrates perfectly how far you can go with a very generous genetic streak, unpolished and sweet, but a little short of greatness. I admit, her voice is spectacular. And for a while there, I thought it was enough.
