Indie Film Fails, a.k.a. Monday Movies

This is a rant, ok? If you're religiously opposed to rants, run away. Now.

Let me start by saying... indie films are the best. So much more refreshing and unusual than blockbusters and romcoms. Obviously. They surprise, sometimes shock, and always satisfy any film fanatic. Having said that, I have comprised a list (which I may or may not share in the future) with indie titles. My biggest source is Sundance, the annual film festival in Utah. I've already checked some of the titles, and even though I watched some pretty good tear and joy-jerkers, I was disappointed by a couple.

When I had a near nervous breakdown at a bus stop, blabbing about how my life makes no sense, about how I am never focused on one thing, and how I'll ruin my future, my very wise friend said, “You’re being too hard on yourself. You should just take a break, figure things out. You have to wait for the answer sometimes.” Then I realized, she was right! I’d been driving myself crazy with all kinds of expectations: for the future; how I should spend my times; scheduling my free time; etc.

It’s that time of week again!

Here’s the deal: I ask my all-knowing friend some questions, he answers, and then I put him asleep until next week. Hey, if I let him stroll about with all the knowledge he has, he might get ideas like ruling the world or something in his head. And it’s a big head. You can shove a whole world in there. Just sayin’.

Sunday Songs: Chicken Soup for the Ears

I wasn’t going to blog today. Honest! But a friend of mine – Mark Evans – blogged his new favorite song today: Never Tomorrow which he found in the Sucker Punch soundtrack. We are both fans of movie scores and this soundtrack, we agreed, is a good one to have.

So when I saw what he did I couldn’t just pass the opportunity to dump my top 6 songs on you guys. And since music is always connected to some moment or person in my life, I might get reminiscent.

My Magic Man List and Five Celebrity Yum-Yums

So… one of my favorite movies of 2010 is Beauty and the Briefcase with Hilary Duff. I know it’s a rom-com, but it’s about a wanna-be writer who joins the business world to find love as she’s writing a feature article for Cosmo magazine. This is one of my daydreams actually. When the World Cup started last year, I was convinced I’d do the same by going to pubs and chatting up football fans.

Unfortunately, I wasn’t so good with the terms so I ended up calling half-time ‘middle break’ and so on. And even though I didn’t finish the article on time (which I smartly called Football Chick), I had lots of drunken fun with my new football friends. Take it from me, not many girls dare frequent bars and cafes when there’s a game on TV, so it’s a good place as any to hook up with fit guys. *blushes*

Dan Cavallari is a man of many talents. Apart from being a freelance writer and photographer, he plays the guitar and has recently published his first novel called Confusing the Seasons, which is a bitter-sweet account of a man’s life after he had lost his wife. In addition, Dan makes the whole social media concept seem so easy, what with working, blogging, tweeting, and amassing a Facebook fanbase. 

Not too bad for a man who almost crashed his bicycle into a moose once.

Love Story in the Morning

I keep having dreams and images in my head, of two lovers. I have written romance before but I usually just keep it in my head. Lately, those images have been so strong that I find it hard to keep them at bay, and why should I?

This morning I woke up with a beautiful story in my mind, albeit somewhat cliched. (It reminds me of the film All Good Things but does not end in murder. Spoiler much?) I won’t write down the whole thing because it will take me ages. After all, in my mind, it just took me minutes to record it.

Basically, a boy and a girl fell in love, but she had dark demons lurking beneath the surface and soon enough, those demons were too strong for either one to handle. He couldn’t fix her, she couldn’t get better, so one day she tried to jump into death. He got there just in time to save her from herself, and finally, he had no choice but to find her a safe haven: the asylum called Bleechthorne. She stayed there for years and he finally lost hope to see her again, as the officials would only let him write letters, which she never answered.
