Sunday Songs: Chicken Soup for the Ears

I wasn’t going to blog today. Honest! But a friend of mine – Mark Evans – blogged his new favorite song today: Never Tomorrow which he found in the Sucker Punch soundtrack. We are both fans of movie scores and this soundtrack, we agreed, is a good one to have.

So when I saw what he did I couldn’t just pass the opportunity to dump my top 6 songs on you guys. And since music is always connected to some moment or person in my life, I might get reminiscent.

Now… I don’t suppose I ever told you what music I listen to. That’s because I listen to everything. I guess I’ve two types of favorite music (for different occasions) and the rest is just for variety. And you know I LOVE variety, don’t you? We’re talking every type of dance, rock, country, folk, instrumental, hip hop, and even metal and rap on occasions. I’m a sucker for a good melody and/or beat. This is why I mostly avoid rap. Eminem is the one exception.

On the one hand, I love to dance and go clubbing. So any type of house/dub-step/drum ‘n’ bass, etc. can get me moving. In terms of a DJ, I’m a Tiesto gal. In terms of commercial dance hits… I enjoy Lady Gaga, Katy Perry, Jason Derulo, and The Saturdays.

Just please, never Justin Bieber me!

My favorite recent hit is Lady Gaga’s Born This Way. Very contagious.

On the other hand, I’m a rock girl. Classics (everything Queen, Aerosmith, and Bon Jovi) are great but even more so, alternative rock. I can literally list a hundred great bands. For now, let’s say the following are my favorite: Lifehouse, Chris Daughtry, Nickelback, 30 Seconds to Mars, Hinder, Breaking Benjamin, Angels and Airwaves, All American Rejects, My Chemical Romance, Three Days Grace, etc.

I can go from hardcore to mellow and back. Now, onto my top 6 list!

 1. Home by Daughtry

By some twist of fate, it was the first song I heard on my journey to the United States (summer of 2007) and the last on my way back. I’d like to think it’s a sign that I’m meant to go live and work there one day. And so I will.

 2. Feeling the Moment by Feeder

This song sounds exactly as the title does. It’s all about feeling the music and once it starts I go to my happy place where my muse lives. No ideas this time, just the feeling.

Music is a great escape within itself. The best.

 3. The Reason by Hoobastank

This was my most favorite song for most of high school. I used it as the soundtrack of my future love story. Granted, I daydreamed a lot and had very naïve ideas about love, but most teens do.  Or at least they did back in my time.

4. The Stages of Falling in and out of Love: the following three songs resonated with three distinct periods of my first love. Suffice it to say it was more of an obsession than real love.

OBSESSION
--hopeful, bordering on delusional--
Back to Me by All-American Rejects

DESPAIR
--restless, bordering on bipolar--
Give Me a Sign by Breaking Benjamin

***

My angry period didn’t have a song.

***

ACCEPTANCE
 --disappointed, bordering on resigned--
Someone Like You by Adele

You can tell it was a pretty bad love story, can’t you? Oh well. Life and show must go on. And so does this post...

6. Closer to the Edge by 30 Seconds to Mars.

I am obsessed with 30 Seconds to Mars.
Jared Leto is one of the reasons.

The band does amazing videos for their songs, so make sure to check out Hurricane’s uncensored version, which is as scandalous as they come. As for Closer to the Edge… it’s everything I want my life to be.

Here’s what the fans had to say on Closer to the Edge’s video:

Don’t regret anything you do. ‘Cos in the end, it makes you who you are.

Some people believe in God, I believe in music. Some people pray, I turn on the radio.

Music is everything to me. That’s all I can say.

Amen, brothers and sisters. Amen.

In parting, I give you an oldish treat.
UPRISING by THE MUSE

You have excellent taste in music! Only now that photo of Beiber will be with me all day long. Ack!

Haha, that's the problem with Bieber: he's EVERYWHERE. So why not on my blog too, lol.

Thanks, Julie! :)

Squeee... I love all the music that you seem to love. Lady Gaga is my hero. /hugs. Do you by any chance like the song "Lighters" by Bruno Mars? I love the riff that Eminem adds to it.

Haha. That's awesome! O.O

I didn't know about Lighters until you mentioned it and now I'm listening to it. It's nice. And may I say that Eminem adds great riff to lots and lots of songs nowadays. *loves* Thanks for stopping by, Michael!

Of course I already knew you had excellent taste in music, and this post confirmed it. I hadn't heard your #2 before, so thanks for adding to my writing play list :)

@Angela Ooh, you should share you life songs. I have a feeling I'll like them. ;)

@Ava I know right?! This is the second blog post he's feturing in.. I might be favoring him. Oh well.

@Jen You haven't? You should find the album. Feeder are amazing... but only if you like that kind of sound. Angels and Airwaves are similarly awesome. :)

Thank you ladies! *grouphugs* It's awesome to share my favorite music with my friends. God bless blogs. :P

Honoured to be an inspiration of sorts :-)

Good list, out of the 6 Feeder's my fave.

But, (there's always a "but") the one not in the list is my fave overall. Muse is one of my top bands, and remained so even after Ms. Meyer blamed her creation on them :-D

Haha, of course it is. I had lots more to add but top 6 sounded better than top 30. :P Yeap, I am obsessed with that song, good choice!
